The Church and the Black Experience (CBE) at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary is excited to announce its 2009 Summer Music and Worship Seminar. Through the Center for the Church and the Black Experience (CBE), our Summer Music and Worship Seminar is committed to reaching out to the Black Church community by providing seminars and workshops that seek to provide Biblical and Theological Foundations in the areas of choral/instrumental music and sacred movement (i.e. liturgical, prophetic, mime, urban, hip hop) in order to help reinforce vital worship for the 21st century. This year, the CBE Summer Music and Worship event will provide two 1-Day seminars: Seminar 1 -- Saturday, July 25, 2009, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Maple Park UMC, 11705 Elizabeth St., Chicago Seminar 2 -- Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Second Baptist Church, 1717 Benson Ave., Evanston In addition to re-examining the biblical and theological foundations for music ministry, other topics will include Biblical and Theological Foundations for Choir, Dance, Instrumental worship leadership, Community Building, within ministry units Passionate Worship: PERFORMANCE OR PRAISE ? ? ? Our coordinator for the Summer Music and Worship Seminar is Rev. Cynthia Wilson, Preacher, Teacher, Conductor, and Grammy Award winning vocalist who co-lead the United Methodist Church 1996 General Conference music and worship, and directed the music and worship for the 2000 General Conference. Presently, Rev. Wilson is a PhD student in Liturgical Studies at Garrett- Evangelical Theological Seminary. Joining Rev. Wilson will be outstanding clinicians from the Chicago area including Minister LaShawn Gary from the St. John AME Church music staff (Aurora, IL), and Kina Nicholas from Shekinah Glory Ministries.
