Our Field Education Program

As Jesus' disciples were sent out into to the world to practice the ministry he taught, we send our students out to practice and refine the ministry into which God has called them.

The strength of our program is in our commitment to provide you with an integration of learning and practice, careful and ongoing attention to the discernment of your call to ministry, and a diversity of field experiences where your call will be tested, affirmed and refined.

Integration with Curriculum - Garrett-Evangelical's field education program works in concert with the Vocational Formation & Church Leadership (VFCL) course series which integrates classroom learning with the practice of ministry.

Discernment of Call - In your first year you will be in conversation with the director of field education to identify the best field setting for you to test and refine you gifts for ministry. These conversations will take place in tandem with your VFCL class work and continue throughout your field education experience.

Diversity of Field Experience - In your second year you will begin your field work. We place students in a variety of churches in the city, suburbs and neighboring states. There are a variety of denominations and Korean and Spanish-speaking sites. There are opportunities to work with church agencies, a variety of chaplaincy settings, CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) programs and social justice ministries. Third year students may serve in a summer internship or mission in the US or abroad.

How are you called to serve? We are committed to help prepare you for service to God and God's people. We would love to tell you more about our field education program. For more information or contact:
