Financial Aid for PhD Students

Institutional Resources

Doctoral Fellowships
  • Are based on prior academic performance ans future academic promise
  • Amounts are based on available funds and academic record.

Hartmann Fellowships

Available to graduates of a Garrett-Evangelical master's degree who enroll in the PhD program in the year immediately subsequent to receiving the degree

  • May be renewed or converted to a Doctoral Fellowship

Federal Resources

The seminary participates in the Federal Stafford Loan Program, which requires the filing of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA.

United Methodist members may be eligible for various grants, loans and/or conference funds. For example:
  • The Rosalie Bentzinger Scholarhsip:
    - Ph.D.’s pursing degree in Christian education
  • Women of Color Scholars Program:
    - Women who are of African, Asian, African-American, Hispanic or Native American parentage

Financial Aid Process

Application for financial aid is made on an annual basis. Admitted students are sent a financial aid package, which must be completed before an award letter is sent. Since some grants and federal loans are awarded on a first-come basis, it is important to file the following forms as soon as possible:
